Where do I put a Traction Pad on a 6' 5" twin fin Fish Surfboard?
Does the traction pad go more towards the tail or over the fins? Is it necessary? Which type of traction pad is best for this type of board? I am a beginner/intermediate surfer looking to advance and thought it might help.
Lots of people surf without traction pads. I never have in 42 years of surfing (although most of my boards are designs that aren't appropriate for traction pads). However, many surfers swear by them, and wouldn't ride without one.
I don't necessarily know if a traction pad is right for a twin fin fish. Fish ride a lot different from other short boards, and you will find that you move on the board a lot more like you would on a longboard or funboard. I wouldn't even think about a traction pad on my twin fin fish, but I am sure there are some surfers out there who might disagree.
I also think that a 6'5" twin fin fish is going to be a tough ride for a beginner. I don't think I have ever heard of anybody with any surfing know-how who recommends a board like that for a beginner. But, nothing is impossible, depending on how athletic you are, how "intermediate" you really are.
