In surfing why is the 3rd wave in a set supposedly the best?
I have read a lot of scientific material on wave formation ect. I'm not really looking for a scientific explaination though... I just want to know where the saying comes from.
A lot of people say that, but it is not always true. It depends on what kind of break you are surfing and what the conditions are like. I know that at pipeline, when I went there the first wave was horrible and the second was a killer (colsed out way too fast). Then the third one was jsut perfect and glassy. I go for the best wave in the set if it is not already taken. Just go for a good looking wave when it is your turn.
