ok so im thinking about buying an xbox 360 ?
now the thing is i want it for online play if anyone would be kind enough to list exactly what i would need for online play that would be great right now i have high speed internet with a MOTOROLA surfboard cablemodem box and the numbers on it are sbv5220 like the black one idk specifically what kind but there all pretty much the same and i think the internet is through atlantic broadband
You should buy a LinkSys Wireless - G router.
Then get either get a LinkSys Wireless - G adapter, or the official Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless Adapter.
After downloading the LinkSys software, connect the router to the modem. Then you can either connect your Xbox 360 to the router via either the Ethernet cord, or wirelessly via the adapters.
If you bought the LinkSys adapter, then after you've configured the adapter using the software, connect the adapter to your Xbox 360. The official Xbox 360 Wireless adapter should only need to be connected to the back of the Xbox 360.
Activate the Xbox 360, go to the "Settings" blade, Select "Networking", Choose "Wireless Connection"...
The Xbox 360 will then search the surrounding area for any wireless signal. It will then display a list of the different signals it is picking up. Choose the Wireless network name that you gave your network.
If you gave that network a security code, you'll need to enter it after choosing the name of your network.
Once your Network settings have been configured, a dialog blade will slide out and ask you which connection you would like to test:

Xbox LIVE Connection
Don't test connection
Xbox LIVE Connection is the option you want to test.
To foin Xbox LIVE:
You can buy the Gold membership card either at a retail store or put it on your credit card. The Gold membership credit card payment methods are: $7/month, $20/3 months, or $50/year.
When you start up the Xbox, go to the "Xbox Dashboard", go to the Xbox LIVE blade (second from the left), Select "Join Xbox LIVE" and follow the instructions.
If you don't have a hot-mail account, or an account with Passport.Net, you'll need to establish one; you can do that on your Xbox during the Xbox LIVE registering procedure.
